Islanders can continue their Liberation Day celebrations into the evening as organisers transform the daytime tea tent on Crown pier into a new electronic music event.
During the day, the tea tent will provide a quieter space for people to enjoy a slice of Guernsey Gâche and a cup of tea, with all proceeds supporting Grow. From 7-11pm, Breakz ‘n’ Beats will take over the space, swapping tea and cake to an upbeat DJ event.
Breakz ‘n’ Beats has been organising DJ performances for 25 years and is best known for its presence at the Vale Earth Fair.
The evening will showcase a variety of local DJs from the CodeBlack Collective, including Leo Piero, Tristan Barry (Trist), Gabriel Buchanan (Fibre), Charlie Muir (Vaerant), Adam Guille (GÜILLE), Tommy Newman (TTSE) & Alex Le Maitre (Lem).
Breakz ‘n’ Beats organiser, Leo Donaldson, said:
“We are excited to bring an electrifying night of music with a high energy blend of house, breakbeats and old school sounds moving through bass genres and into the likes of jungle and drum and bass.
“It is an amazing opportunity to share our sets with a crowd that appreciate the genres and offer an alternate space along the seafront for people to round out their Liberation Day celebrations after a day of commemorations and family fun.”
Liberation Day organisers launched the opportunity for groups to take over the tea tent in collaboration with Guernsey Arts, to ensure that the day’s offerings are maximised for every age group.
Deputy Andy Cameron, Vice-President and Liberation Day Lead for Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, added:
"The Tea Tent Takeover allows us to extend the day’s programme into the evening while making better use of a space that would otherwise sit empty.
“It is also a great way to showcase local DJs and broaden the appeal of Liberation Day, particularly for younger islanders, while adding something fresh to the overall celebrations."
