Guernsey will receive a Royal Visit from Their Royal Highnesses The Earl and Countess of Wessex on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen on Liberation Day this year.

Rachael Newton has shared the incredible story of her grandfather, Sargent-Major Robert Shaw who first British soldier to land on Guernsey soil after the liberation of the island from the German occupation.

Following the success of last year’s Liberation Day, where the focus was on community-based events throughout the island’s parishes, the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture has supported plans to continue this approach going forward.

Islanders living in Guernsey care homes will receive a free afternoon tea hamper, gifted from the States of Guernsey and sponsored by Guernsey Post, to enjoy this Liberation Day.

Five hundred free crafts packs will be available to children in Guernsey to help celebrate Liberation Day this year. 

Liberation Day organisers have released the route for the island-wide Cavalcade which will visit all ten parishes in Guernsey on Sunday May 9th.
