As the Bailiwick remembers 80 years since it was liberated from German occupation, local businesses are being encouraged to play a part in the island's biggest liberation celebrations to date.
The Liberation Day Oversight Board is appealing for sponsors for activities and events that will take place on Liberation Day. Sponsors will receive a range of benefits, both in the lead up to the commemorations and celebrations, as well as on the day itself.
Helen Glencross, Head of Heritage Services, said:
'We are delighted that a number of local businesses have already committed their support, which we will be announcing in due course. With the scale of the events which will be staged across the St Peter Port seafront, the support of the business community is key to making the day a success. We are expecting thousands of people to come into town to mark Liberation Day and being a sponsor is an excellent opportunity to promote your business, raise your profile and be part of a landmark community event.'
'On Saturday 10 May we will host a Liberation Day concert with a visiting youth orchestra from Biberach alongside local musicians and singers. The concert is an opportunity to celebrate the strong relationship that has developed between us since the end of the war.'
Liberation Day will feature activities and events along the seafront, including the programme of live music on a big stage on North Beach, an enhanced Cavalcade with the inclusion of floats, pedestrians, and an expectation of upwards of 250 vehicles, and a number of visiting military units, many of which have island connections. Each pier will be filled with activities, with a heritage area on South Esplanade. There will be free entry to Castle Cornet, which will host a programme of live music throughout the day.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available for Liberation Day's milestone celebrations, including the music stage, firework display, the children's zone and the Liberation Day concert.
